One Wheel Up

Text Box: It’s been nearly 10 years now. My how time flies. ‘Twas only a small black and white photo about 2”x2.5” filling a page of a story inside Motorcyclist magazine about a Ducati track day at Grattan raceway. (see inset photo.)
To most plastic headed, rice
burning, graffiti graphics riding punks it probably passed their eyes without a glance. For me and others just like you it was a revelation of a dream come true.

I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I’ve waited for Buell motorcycles.
Mmmm….ok since you’re wondering I’ll tell you.
In 1984, 13 years before I saw “MY” bike in that magazine I was in the 5th grade living in snowmobile country - the Teton valley in eastern Idaho.
Most kids lived, breathed and ate snowmobiles. Fine, cool and all that but my time at home and at lunch was filled with hot rod motorcycles..
From the air cooled RD series of Yamaha two-strokes to Kawasaki Text Box: triples and the venerable mother of all mothers, the Yamaha V-MAX.
Being a young kid stricken by all things two wheeled I had a
panache for writing.
During lunch breaks I’d sit in the library with my buddy and all of our motorcycle magazines. We’d write all the major mfgs. asking them to send posters of their latest and greatest.
This was back in the day when mfgs actually cared about their customers (present Buell company not included).
A few weeks later I’d receive a poster tube with brochure, large color poster and a real signed letter from the company.
The one that stands out for me was the Yamaha V-Max poster. Some may remember it as it showed a diminutive Gleason smoking the back tire of the hot rod Max head to head with a flamed out 4 wheel topless hotrod.
“Ooooh, aaaahhhhh”, yes my thoughts exactly. The holy grail of motorcycle hotrods of the day.
And I swore that one day when I grew up big enough and had enough money I would own a hot rod motorcycle. So what it took 13 years for the real hot rod called a Buell to make it to my eyes. And no I don’t technically own the hot rod Buell of my dreams, not yet anyways.

Text Box: And no I don’t actually own a Buell but that doesn’t make me any less of an enthusiast. I WILL own my dream rod.
Buell is a different kind of company, we all know this. Their bikes are built from the ground up as their mantra goes.
After all we both know they illicit an adrenaline and endorphin rushed injection anytime you hear them, feel them, see them and ride them.
Can you say that about that about Mr. Plastic’s GSXZXR-Z1500GP1000ZZR racer replica?
I’ve ridden motorcycles for close to 18 years and yeah maybe back in the day big HP numbers and bright plastic got my attention.
But soon you realize the real emotion of owning a bike comes from what you can feel, hear and an unspoken connection with the bike.
Buell has all of these and so much more!
Because of all of these things and perhaps more I’m an enthusiastic participant in the lifestyle of these motorcycles and proud to bring you Buell for 2008!
